This presentation explores a practical approach to implementing inquiry-based lessons within a Physical Education (PE) and Sports curriculum. We will delve into the four levels of inquiry—confirmation, structured, guided, and open inquiry—providing a comprehensive understanding of how each can effectively foster student engagement and learning.
Through discussion of pedagogical practices and the contributions of various educational governing bodies, we will map out the influences they have on the landscape of Physical Education. This foundation will allow us to collaboratively envision what inquiry-based learning looks like across different educational settings, helping us generate innovative, student-centred lesson ideas.
We will examine the specifics of each inquiry level, including appropriate grade-level applications and strategies for effective implementation. Additionally, we will highlight key components such as scaffolding, questioning techniques, hypothesis formation, and collaborative learning, all of which are essential for guiding students as they advance through the levels of inquiry.
Lastly, we will reflect on our current practices and curricula, identifying opportunities to seamlessly integrate inquiry-based lessons into our units. This presentation promises to provide educators with actionable insights and strategies that can transform their teaching approach, ultimately leading to a richer and more engaging learning experience for students in Physical Education.
