Workshop Overview:
Building on the foundations laid in the Floor Skills session, this workshop takes gymnastics to the next level. In this 60-minute, high-impact session, we’ll explore how to teach vaulting and jumping techniques that are safe, progressive, and exciting for pupils of all ages and abilities.
Aimed at PE specialists, this session will provide a clear framework for delivering dynamic movement skills, using both large and small apparatus. You’ll gain the tools to structure lessons that not only build physical competence but inspire confidence to use challenging apparatus.
What You’ll Learn in Part 2 – Vaulting, Jumping & Beam:
- Explore key vaulting techniques learning how to use vaults, benches, boxes, and springboards. Focusing on safe approaches, controlled take-offs, and strong landings. Progressions will suit both novice and more experienced pupils.Teach jumping with control and creativity, mastering teaching strategies for a variety of jumps, including straight, tuck, star, and turning jumps, with a focus on developing height, fluency, and linked movement patterns over the vault.
- Introduce beam and bench work using benches or low beams to develop balance, posture, and spatial awareness. Discover how to teach simple mounts, travels, balances, turns, and dismounts.
- Break down complex skills into manageable parts, understanding how to scaffold each skill into clear progressions to support success at every level.
- Manage equipment and ensure safe practice, gaining practical guidance on apparatus set-up, rotation, and organisation to ensure lessons run smoothly and safely, even with limited space or kit.
