This presentation introduces a practical safeguarding framework designed to build strong Networks of Safety for suicide prevention across diverse school and community settings. Using up-to-date global and local suicide data, the session emphasizes the importance of early identification, clear referral pathways, and multi-level training programs such as safeTALK and ASIST.
The presentation addresses how stigma, taboo, and cultural myths about suicide influence students’ willingness to seek help and how educators and school staff can respond effectively and compassionately. Through real-world examples and interactive discussions, participants will learn how to identify and engage formal and informal support networks within their schools and communities.
Attendees will leave equipped with actionable strategies and tools to foster suicide-safer environments, empower their colleagues and students, and collectively build protective networks that are culturally sensitive and practical for educational settings.
