Evidence-based practices in teaching and learning of PE, sports & games are becoming increasingly important in order to create the best learning environment for students. These evidence-based approach provide a reliable and effective method in meeting the intended outcomes in learning of sports & games in PE.
There is a difference between best practices and evidence-based teaching practices, while best practices will look into the most popular and latest teaching practices that may seem to be interesting and noble, it may be lack of educational research in supporting its efficacy (Curtin, D., 2023). On the other hand, evidence-based practices are shown to have made positive impact students as it serves as an impactful tool to provide feedback then feed forward to progress in the students performance in the games and sports they are learning during lessons.
Dylan William has stated “the main purpose of feedback is to improve the students and not the work”. A piece of work can always be improved, but more importantly, the learners needs to make a meaningful progress. For example, a lot of apps and software that provide feedback to the students correctable actions in activities such as throwing and catching i.e. passing in a game of basketball or netball. Thereafter, with that how do the students act upon the points of feedback. Feedback-no matter how well-designed, when the students do not act upon it, is a waste of time.
The presentation focuses on strategies to capture evidences based on guided self-assessment, peer assessment and utilizing of technology in PE lessons. The presentation aims to have PE and sports teachers to identify the possible best strategies for students, to convert the points from evidence to actionable feedback, in ensuring progress in the sports and games students perform in.
