This session is for any physical education that has wondered ‘what good looks like’. This active session focused on data-based feedback for the purpose of improving learning guides participants to build learner agency through formative feedback.
Utilizing the tenets of the Common Ground Collaborative (CGC), participants will experience how they can transform the learning experiences for their students. Connecting the cognitive, affective, and physical components of physical education to CGC’s Conceptual and Character learning through CGC modules, participants will examine how to organize their lessons in a way that utilizes prior knowledge and experience, reflective thinking, and providing evidence.
Following the participants’ experience of an activity, it is unpacked, exposing the evidence that can be collected related to conceptual understanding, competencies, and character. As students complete these activities, they are exposed to new ideas and understand who they are becoming through physical and emotional growth. Participants will be provided with ideas and options for next steps for connecting conceptual understanding to physical competency through active activities, discussions, and inquiry.
Following this session, participants will have a clearer answer to the question: “How do we know students are learning more than just the activity?”
