Game Sense is a specific model that emerged from Bunker and Thorpe’s Teaching Games for Understanding (TGfU) and was “developed in Australia during the mid-1990s through collaboration with Rod Thorpe and the Australian Sports Commission” (Thorpe, 2006, cited by Pill, 2016). Rather than isolated skill practice or large-group gameplay, students solve specific challenges through modified, small-sided games. In this workshop, participants will play a progression of Game Sense invasion games that build in tactical complexity, moving from general invasion activities to Touch Rugby-specific games. The focus will be on inquiry, teacher questioning and problem-solving, alongside how coaches use observation and constructive conversations to develop athletes’ gameplay.
