Many girls disengage from sport during early adolescence, particularly around ages 12 to 13. This is rarely about ability or motivation alone. It is often shaped by emotional, psychological, and physical changes, alongside coaching environments that do not fully respond to these needs.
This practical workshop equips PE teachers, coaches, and school leaders with simple, non-clinical strategies to better understand, support, and retain female students in sport. Participants will explore the reasons girls drop out, including mindset, mental health, self-injury, body image, and puberty-related changes.
The session focuses on recognising early signs of disengagement, responding appropriately while maintaining professional boundaries, and creating team environments that strengthen connection, confidence, and motivation.
Through real scenarios, guided discussion, and applied strategies, participants will leave with practical approaches they can use immediately in their coaching contexts.
