How can we transform routine playground management into a lesson on student agency? This session shares the journey of redesigning an Early Years tricycle unit into a practical framework for Equipment Stewardship and Social-Emotional Learning, as featured in TIE Online.
Rather than a theoretical lecture, this workshop focuses on a live demonstration of the ‘Driver-Leader’ system. Using a few tricycles in the room, we will simulate the protocols that empower 5-year-olds to navigate ‘traffic’ with empathy. We will also examine site-specific data from UNIS Hanoi, demonstrating how student ownership directly impacts equipment maintenance and increases Active Learning Time (ALT). Participants will walk away with a ‘Stewardship Toolkit’ (including a curriculum map and observation templates) to help turn any equipment challenge into a leadership opportunity.
