Turner Johnson

Head of Science Department, Mahidol University International Demonstration School

I am Turner Johnson, a Grade 12 health and sports science teacher and head of science for my school. I studied physical and health education at the University of Winnipeg and graduated in 2018. I moved to Thailand after that and have been teaching at my current school since 2021. During that time, I completed my Masters of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of New Brunswick and graduated in 2024. Since then, I have been the Head of Science for 2 years. Since my background is no biology, physics or chemistry, this role has had a lot of challenges but has also taught me so much about leadership. There are 20 members in the department, which is by far the most of any department in the school. This has helped me make clear and purposeful policies and learn how to have difficult conversations while creating a culture of trust within a previously problematic department. My credentials and leadership experience will help me present a meaningful and purposeful session for leaders throughout Southeast Asia. Thank you for the opportunity to apply to present.
