- To understand the nature and range of peer-reviewed assessment instruments used to evaluate students’ technical-tactical performance in invasion games and sports
- To understand the assessment practices of a population of Australian secondary school PE teachers in the context of student performance in invasion games and sports (Year Levels 7-10: ages 13-16)
- To explore the potential use of an invasion games and sports assessment framework (Move, Choose, Play)
This session provides the background to the Move, Choose, Play assessment framework presented in:
Gow, D., & Farias, C. (2025). Multidimensional assessment in game-based approaches. In C. Farias, S. Pill, & L. Griffin (Eds.). Game-based approaches in physical education: International applications (pp. 21-30). Routledge. https://doi.org/10.4324/9781032723327
Specifically, it describes David’s PhD research on the assessment practices of Australian secondary school PE teachers in the context of student performance in invasion games and sports. The session will provide an outline of: (1) invasion games and sports assessment instruments located in the peer-reviewed literature; (2) the assessment practices of a population of Australian secondary school teachers; and (3) potential applications of an invasion games and sports assessment framework. This conceptual framework was purposefully designed to align peer-reviewed assessment instruments, game-based teaching approaches, and state/national curricula in Australia.
