Workshop 1 Health Education For International Schools Workshop
Create a comprehensive, skills-based Health & Well-being curriculum
In this two-day workshop, participants will be guided through the process of creating a comprehensive, skills-based Health, Well-being and SEL curriculum that can be vertically aligned from K-12 and adapted to work alongside host country mandates, community values, and within a variety of curricular frameworks. Participants will leave with ready-to-go resources, projects and unit plans for a culturally responsive approach to Health and SEL that meets the unique needs of today’s international youth.
Day 1
Audience: Using data and well-being trends for a current, relevant and adaptable program
Approach: Unpacking standards: making the shift from content to skills-based curriculum
Framework: Using the IB framework, host country mandates and international guidance documents for transparency around content strands and sexual health

Overview: Gap analysis, scope and sequence, and vertical alignment tools
Resourcing and Pedagogy: Anchor resources and engagement strategies for unit and lesson planning with focused work time.

Amy Lauren Smith is currently based at Hong Kong International School, where she teaches high school Health and serves as the Schoolwide Health Coordinator. With over 15 years of experience in curriculum design and international education, Amy works as a consultant with schools looking to align their approach to whole-school wellness, Health, and SEL. She presents at conferences around the world and remains active in the field through her work with SHAPE America and as Secretary of Health for the International Alliance for Health, PE, Dance, and Sport.

Workshop 2 PHASE International School PE Teacher Workshop
The first level certification session for physical education (PHASE Certified Physical Educators) provides a comprehensive overview of foundational concepts essential for aspiring and experienced physical educators.
The workshop develops a solid foundation for all PHASE-certified physical educators. Topics will include the purpose of physical education, foundational practices, and assessment and the context and uniqueness of physical education in international schools.
Through interactive sessions and practical demonstrations, this certification equips teachers with the knowledge and skills necessary to inspire youth through physical education.
In this 12-hour face-to-face course, topics will include learning as it relates to physical education, the purpose of physical education, foundational practices, and assessment. Attendees will also be exposed to the uniqueness of physical education in international schools. Through interactive sessions and practical demonstrations, this certification equips teachers with the knowledge and skills necessary to inspire youth through physical education.

Aaron Beighle
Dr. Aaron Beighle holds a Ph.D. from Arizona State University specializing in physical education and physical activity for youth. He is currently a Professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Promotion at the University of Kentucky.
Beighle is an internationally recognized scholar of physical education and school-based physical activity promotion. He regularly collaborates with schools and organizations interested in maximizing the role of physical education and physical activity to create an active culture for well-being. Dr. Beighle presents nationally and internationally on strategies for extending the impact of movement to address the physical, mental, cognitive and social needs of students as well as school communities. He has written more than 100 research-based and practical articles as well as six books, most notably Dynamic Physical Education for Elementary School Children 19e. Aaron recently contributed to make the widely used lesson plans for this book available via dynamicpeasap.com. Beighle holds a steadfast commitment to helping physical education programs and schools guide ALL students on a journey that makes physical activity a meaningful part of their well-being.

Requirements
To obtain certification, the participant must:
- Attend the full two-day face-to-face workshop & participate in all activities and discussions during class.
- Send the Professional Growth Plan (PGP) (PE Teacher Certification) or Unit Plan (Health Certification)
Timeline
Due date for submission of the plan is four weeks following the workshop. Feedback will be provided within two weeks of the due date.
Registration for the certification following the face-to-face workshop is open for two-weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many hours of work is the certification supposed to take?
How long it will take to complete will depend on your work efficiency. For some, this might be a relatively short period of time. For others, it could take longer. We would estimate between 2-5 hours for development and for the PE Certification an additional 2-5 hours for summarizing after implementation.
How is the work assessed? Is there a minimum “score” to pass the certification?
You will receive feedback based on the rubric below in which you need to attain “ 4 meets” on all elements. There will be no “score” issued.
Can I submit a work that I have worked on collaboratively?
Yes, but you must clearly articulate your individual contributions.
