This dynamic event will be hosted as a pre-conference to the PHASE Asia Pacific conference. Dive into a series of insightful sessions, and networking opportunities aimed at supporting you in developing and delivering a health and well-being curriculum in your school.

Within each of the four sessions there will be whole group collaboration and opportunities to split into smaller groups depending on the needs of participants by primary/secondary or other considerations.

There is an opportunity to lead workshops and sessions during this summit in hour-long breakout sessions, as well as at the PHASE Main Conference focused on the strand of Health, Well-being and SEL. Amy Lauren Smith

Consultant, Health Teacher and Schoolwide Health Coordinator, Hong Kong International School

Amy Lauren Smith is currently based at Hong Kong International School, where she teaches high school Health and serves as the Schoolwide Health Coordinator. With over 15 years of experience in curriculum design and international education, Amy works as a consultant with schools looking to align their approach to whole-school wellness, Health, and SEL. She presents at conferences around the world and remains active in the field through her work with SHAPE America and as Secretary of Health for the International Alliance for Health, PE, Dance, and Sport.

Holly Alperin

Clinical Associate Professor & Program Coordinator Health and Physical Education Department of Kinesiology, University of New Hampshire

Holly Alperin has over 20 years’ experience in both public health and education and holds an Ed.M. in Policy, Planning and Administration from Boston University, a B.S. in Health Education/Health Promotion from Central Michigan University, and is a Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES). Currently, at the University of New Hampshire she is a faculty member and coordinates the Health and Physical Education teacher preparation program within the Department of Kinesiology. Prior to UNH, she worked for 16 years with the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in a variety of roles to support schools as they worked towards strengthening policies and increasing capacity around school health education and programs, school nutrition programs, and ensuring high quality professional development for educators. Through work at the local, state, national and international levels she supports the implementation of a skills-based health education program and collaborates with schools and communities as they create a culture of health and well-being for all young people. Ms. Alperin’s research interests include skills-based health education, creating a culture of health and well-being in schools that ensures safe and equitable health education experiences, and enhancing school-based physical and health education programming. Ms. Alperin currently serves in a variety of volunteer roles including Director of Health for the International Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (IAHPEDS), Chair of the Pre-Service Teacher Preparation Council at UNH, past-vice president for health education of the NH Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance and past chair of the Health Education Council for SHAPE America. She lives in New Hampshire, USA with her husband and two daughters. In her free time, she enjoys the beach, yoga, skiing with her family, and taking time to enjoy a good book.

Dr. Sarah Benes

Associate Professor, Southern Connecticut State University

Dr. Benes is an Assistant Professor and Coordinator of School Health Education at Southern Connecticut State University. She was previously the Program Director for Physical and Health Education programs at Boston University as well as serving as an Associate Clinical Professor at Merrimack College. Dr. Benes has multiple published articles in peer reviewed journals as well as a recently published textbook. She also presents at local and national conferences regularly and is actively engaged in service to the physical and health education professions as well as to the community. Dr. Benes’ research interests include skills-based health education, equity & justice in health education, physical activity in schools, and enhancing school-based physical and health education programming. Dr. Benes is also a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES), a National Board Certified Health & Well-Being coach, and is Past President of SHAPE America.
