As IGCSE PE teachers, we teach a PE curriculum that is theory-oriented for 50%. Nonetheless, our students are primarily visual or kinaesthetic learners. How can the textbook material be made more attractive to our students?
How do we make dry textbook material into exciting hands-on experiences that will interest our ‘sporty’ students?
My presentation will explore various creative and practical classroom activities enlivening the IGCSE PE syllabus. An innovative approach such as using a cake to construct a human skeleton, employing cereal to simulate blood flow or taking chicken wings as antagonistic muscle pairs will be demonstrated.
These activities make studying enjoyable for learners but they also make sure that vital theoretical concepts are converted into more pleasant and interesting ways of learning.
By the end of this session, participants should have acquired an array of practical strategies ready for use in their classrooms.
