Play is chaotic and it’s chaotic for a very good reason. Complex systems like us require complex stressors in order to remain healthy and to reach our potential.
Movement for young people has become more and more constrained, with fewer spaces to play in, less time given to locomotor play, and increased yet unfounded fear of injury. There is less physical literacy and more specific skill acquisition. For the human body and brain to develop full motor coordination, adaptability and resilience, it must be exposed regularly to non-linear, multi-directional, instantly reactive movement challenges – in other words, it needs to be exposed to some chaos!
In this session, we will examine what we mean by chaos and why it is so powerful in developing naturally athletic individuals. We will also look at how activities like parkour can be used to restore this essential chaos in an effective, safe and manageable way within a physical education setting to encourage our natural human birthright – physical literacy.
Come learn to be a chaos builder.
