When considering the skills or abilities that make an elite basketball athlete, the qualities of ball-handling or finishing ability are some of the qualities that first come to mind. Physical ability or execution of skills should not be the only determining factor that constitutes the overall ability or success of an athlete. The purpose of this study aims to define the term “basketball IQ,” and looks for ways to identify it and develop it in athletes in an effort to provide coaches a new understanding of the importance of this skill and further develop the independent decision-making and success of their athletes both individually and collectively as a team.
