Service learning – a pedagogical approach that combines community service and engagement with what is being learnt in the classroom- is a key component of the IB curriculum. Service learning has many benefits for students, including the development of interpersonal skills and dispositions, as well as an increased understanding of local and global cultures and lifestyles. Incorporating service learning opportunities in your units to tackle an authentic need in your local environment can be a great way to enhance and reinforce some of the ATL and subject-specific skills you are trying to develop.
In this session, we will explore some strategies that Physical and Health Education teachers can explore to integrate Service Learning in their curriculum.
