Falling is an intrinsic part of learning how not to fall. Kids should be moving and playing as much as possible, and that means they are going to fall from time to time – and there is nothing wrong with that. In fact, it’s an essential part of our natural coordination development.
The key is to fall well. Parkour teaches us how to be pliant and flexible, yet with enough tension to be able to manage any fall we might have to deal with – this not only reduces the chance of injury but also increases a child’s confidence when it comes to movement. Knowing that you can handle falls enables you to do so much more with your body.
You will learn the key concepts and methods of fall training in parkour, including how to roll to disperse impact away from the body. You will come away with several activities to help young people understand how to create the ‘relaxed tension’ required to be able to manage falls safely and easily, and you’ll learn how to make falling fun, playful and empowering for all.
