I want to share knowledge in the field of Fundamental Motor Skills. The presentation explains the sensitive stages of development as well as the critical stages within the sensitive stage for each motor skill. If the sensitive stages are not used, then the child cannot reach his potential. The sensitive stages for most motor skills are between the ages of 5-7 years and 7-12 years, so this presentation is intended for teachers who work in Primary or Middle school.
I attended PHASE in Hong Kong and learned a lot. Among other things, one of the lectures was FMS, but nothing was mentioned about the sensitive periods of development of each FMS and why it is important. It is important for the reason that if this sensitive period of children is missed, these children will not be able to develop these skills to their full potential later on. This can also be useful for teachers who create a PE curriculum so that their curriculum follows the sensitive stages of development. I created one such curriculum in the school where I work and I would give it as an example during lectures.
In the presentation, I explain in detail for each motor skill when it is a sensitive phase and when it is a critical phase within the sensitive phase. For example: Speed is divided into several components: reaction speed, single movement speed, movement frequency, acceleration ability and maximum (locomotor) speed. Each component of speed has its own sensitive phase when it develops the most and it is important to stimulate children through activities so that when they reach the age for a certain component, we organize activities that will help the development of that motor skill, ie its component. Then there is an accelerated acquisition of movement and development of motor skills. There are many scientific studies that show that children who were stimulated at the right time, that their motor skills improved more compared to the group that did not work according to these periods.
