Rita McDermott
Equipped with a graduate certificate in Sexual Health from the University of Alberta in one hand, and a mug of cheap staff room coffee in the other, Rita has been collaborating to build comprehensive, inclusive health instruction at international schools for over a decade. Before joining HKIS as a Middle School Health teacher, she taught EAL, Science, and Humanities courses on three continents plus a boat! At schools without dedicated Health courses, Rita’s roles involved building curriculum and systems for embedding more social, emotional, and sexual health instruction into existing structures and programs. She has experience working as a Sexual and Reproductive Health Educator and Spanish/English translator in clinical settings as well. In any capacity, Rita works to build people’s sense of belonging, confidence, and agency.
