World Academy of Sport
High performing student athletes are required to make significant commitments to balance their academic, sport and social lives. For these individuals who spend an increasing number of hours pursuing their passion for their chosen sport(s) additional interventions need to be considered by those who support them.
The World Academy of Sport (WAoS) is committed to assisting athletes on this journey through working with those involved in their education to understand the unique need’s that must be balanced by student athletes in such circumstances. The WAoS has developed a criteria in cooperation with organisations such as the IOC, IPC, other International Sport Federations and the International Baccalaureate for educational organisations to be recognised and accredited as an Athlete Friendly Education Centre (AFEC). AFEC is an internationally recognised accreditation framework which works with schools and universities to provide effective support to high performing student athletes.
The WAoS develops and delivers learning programmes for sport and event participants from athletes through to coaches, officials, administrators and managers through tailored educational programmes. Organisations that we work with include the International Olympic Committee, International Paralympic Committee and Organising Committees of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, International Federations, National Federations, National Governments and the International Baccalaureate.
