Have you ever wondered why some students gradually stop asking questions in class? Yet, it is often students’ questions that reveal their thinking, spark curiosity, and drive deeper learning.
Research suggests that while teachers ask most of the questions during lessons, students rarely ask their own. This raises an important challenge: if we want students to be curious, engaged, and inquiry-minded learners, how do we help them develop the ability and confidence to ask meaningful questions?
This presentation explores the use of the Question Formulation Technique (QFT), a simple yet powerful strategy that teaches students how to generate, improve, and prioritise their own questions. Drawing on examples from Physical Education classrooms, we will examine how the QFT can enhance engagement, deepen learning, and foster a more inquisitive classroom culture.
Participants will leave with practical strategies and ready-to-use tools to cultivate student questioning and inquiry in their own classrooms.
