Dr. Dawn Penney

Dawn Penney is a researcher and teacher educator in Health and Physical Education who has worked with government agencies, curriculum authorities, schools and teachers in developing curriculum and assessment.

Dawn has worked in the tertiary education sector in Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom and is currently Professorial Research Fellow at Edith Cowan University, Western Australia, Adjunct Professor at Monash University, Victoria, and an Honorary Visiting Fellow in the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences, Loughborough University, UK.

Dawn has been a member of ACHPER since 1996, an ACHPER branch member in Queensland, Western Australia, Tasmania and Victoria and is a fellow of the Association for Physical Education (UK).

Dawn’s research and professional work focuses particularly on bringing issues of equity to the fore of attention in Health and Physical Education and sport. Her publications include Politics, policy and practice in Physical Education (1999, E&FN Spon); Gender and Physical Education: Contemporary issues and future directions (Routledge, 2002); Sport Education in Physical Education: Research based practice (Routledge, 2005); Assessment in Physical Education: A sociocultural perspective (Routledge, 2013), many academic papers and professional publications.
