Purpose
Go beyond the physical and look at how you can incorporate inquiry based and (w)holistic learning into physical education. When activities are personally relevant to their lives and the challenge level is ‘just right’ students will have meaningful experiences in physical education.
As healthy, knowledgeable citizens your students can fully contribute to their communities and beyond.
Objectives
By the end of this session you will have
A deeper understanding of an inquiry based unit plan
Simple, visible and immediately useable assessment tool for self assessment
A meaningful way to bring awareness to character strengths
An approach that enhances students critical and creative thinking
Brief description
Using one unit of inquiry (individual pursuits) we will unpack opportunities to empower students to make choices and connections, improve physical competence in an area meaningful to them and challenge their creative and critical thinking. Throughout this unit students were encouraged to find the ingredients for success that are transferable across disciplines as well as reflect on their mindsets, commitment and related concepts. The challenge for the teacher is maintaining flexibility and openness, clear boundaries and expectations and documenting learning.
