Nature-based physical activities are done in natural areas, require little or no equipment, de-emphasize the traditional competition found in PE, connect to nature, are cost-efficient, and can be used by teachers with their students consistently throughout a school year.
Increasingly, people are less likely to have direct contact with nature in their lives. This lack of connection with nature reduces benefits to one’s health and well-being, while limiting positive emotions, attitudes, and behaviours toward the environment.
In this workshop, participants will find out how teachers can use ready-to-use nature-based physical activities with their students in natural spaces found on or close to their school.
Participants will:
Know what nature-based physical activities are.
Know the benefits of physical activity engagement in nature.
Participate in practical nature-based physical activities that can be used with their own students to achieve a wide range of learning outcomes.
