Learning Objectives:
1. To analyse and critique assessment rubrics currently used in Health and Physical Education.
2. To apply a rubric design and use guide to review, adapt and reimagine rubrics for HPE contexts.
3. To consider how AI can support more consistent, inclusive and curriculum-aligned rubric practice in HPE.
This workshop complements the earlier workshop that described David’s mixed-methods research into the assessment practices of Victorian secondary school PE teachers in the context of invasion games and sports. This session focuses on participants’ application of a Rubric Design and Use framework to examine and re-imagine rubrics in HPE. The framework outlines key decision points in rubric design and use, and provides literature-informed recommendations for effective rubric construction and application. It also describes the outcomes of a 2026 feasibility study of the framework conducted with one Victorian P-12 school. Attendees are encouraged to bring any assessment rubrics they currently use in PE.
