Dance is a valuable form of physical activity that can contribute to children’s enjoyment, character development, health and social interaction. It is unfortunate that as people get older, they become more self -conscious about dancing. Based on observation and a recent perception survey of pre-service teachers’ attitude towards the teaching of dance during PE, only 8.7% of pre-service PE teachers are confident to teach dance.
In this practical-based workshop, Karen aims to inspire a renewed appreciation for dance and share how she equip her student-teachers to create positive and meaningful dance experiences using the Movement Education Framework. Movement Education framework is a holistic and student-centered approach that focuses on developing body awareness, creative expression, and movement literacy. This framework encourages learners to explore movement concepts, develop their own choreography, and gain a deeper understanding of their bodies in space. The workshop will cover the following points:
1. Establish learning objectives.
2. Create a supportive environment.
3. Introduction to Movement concepts
4. Guided Exploration
5. Creating movement patterns
6. Peer collaboration
7. Choreographic Process
