The workshop will demonstrate to participants the variety of ways in which outdoor experiential learning can be a highly effective (and highly engaging) way to address a significant number of a school’s SEL and academic goals, incorporating elements of Design thinking, Integrated curriculum, multi-disciplinary activities (PE, environmental science, psychology (group dynamics), ecology, engineering, physics, character education, reflection, and leadership. All of Dragonfly’s activities for students focus on the development of one of more of the “5 C’s” i.e. Collaboration, Creativity, Confidence, Compassion and Cultural Appreciation, and align well with learning outcomes of most international schools. Participants will be shown how outdoor learning can play a significant role in the pursuit of these outcomes, and augment school curricula in engaging ways.
In addition, participants will receive recommendations on how to integrate outdoor learning in their own school, and what is needed in order for such endeavors to be implemented successfully. Participants will brainstorm how they might structure an outdoor learning program, discuss the barriers to doing so, and consider the linkages between the program they envision and the goals of their school.
